The is back meeting at the St Ignace High School wood shop following the remodel. There was no demo but here are some pictures of the show and tell items.
The items in the foreground are the show and tell items. There were three pieces of wood for the raffel. This is a post that Steve Promo has a contract to turn multiple units. He glued together sever pieces of White Cedar and gut the blank to the required square size and turn each based on a drawing sent to him by the customer.
Here is a closer look at the platter with a representation of the state of Michigan in the middle.A member turned a football and added stitching.
Here are three vases turned from a slab section of ash so each has a natural edge. They just need a final finish and you'll have popa, moma and baby vase set. This s another fine example of a sound horn for a cell phone. Beautiful work.
This is another great example, from Jim Rutledge, of a turn box made to look like a basket with a lid. The lid has a section of antler for the top handle. Great work. The stitching around the edge is really great.
This platter has a unique outer edge of material that looks like a metal film was added.
In the background is a large vase. There several bowls, two with natural edges. Archie brought in some more refined balls as he developed the technique to turn a sphere. The far right ball is Purple Heart and the other two are aromatic cedar.
Club members and guests had a great time discussing the projects and the methods used to make the objects.
